🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
The fintech is a profitable, venture-backed payments company
- RedotPay raised US$107 million in an oversubscribed series B led by Goodwater Capital, with Pantera Capital, Blockchain Capital, and Circle Ventures among the backers, to expand its stablecoin payment services 1.
- RedotPay says the business is already profitable, with more than US$150 million in annualized revenue from its user base 1.
- Its card product aims at a narrow segment, with transaction limits up to US$100,000 per purchase, while skipping cashback rewards that many rival cards offer 2.
- Adding Sui fits the product plan since the network handles commerce-focused transfers that cost a fraction of a cent and settle within seconds 3.
The integration signals a shift in global payment infrastructure
- The partnership mirrors a wider move where fintech firms turn to stablecoins on high-speed blockchains to handle cross-border transfers outside traditional payment networks 1.
- Sui and similar networks compete to become a settlement layer for digital dollars, facing rivals such as Solana and Ethereum, so landing payment apps matters 4.
- RedotPay relies on native USDC, a stablecoin issued by Circle, aligning with broader demand for natively issued and regulated stablecoins instead of third-party bridged assets, which are token versions moved from another blockchain rather than issued directly by Circle 5.
- RedotPay ties the approach to compliance, saying it has secured regulatory licenses across Argentina, Canada, and the U.S. 6.
