Chinese EV makers, including BYD and startups like Dreame, are accelerating their push into overseas markets as domestic price competition intensifies and profit margins shrink.

These firms are expanding production abroad, opening more showrooms, and forming partnerships in regions such as Europe, Asia-Pacific, and South America.

Industry data shows that Chinese manufacturers exported 2 million pure electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles in the first eight months of 2025, up 51% year-on-year, according to the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

Jato Dynamics reported that Chinese carmakers captured a 5.1% share of the European market in H1 2025, almost double from a year earlier.

BYD, based in Shenzhen, aims to deliver up to 1 million vehicles overseas this year, which could account for about 20% of its total sales.

The company is using its own fleet of car carrier ships to support its export strategy.

Xpeng has started production in Europe through a partnership with Magna Steyr in Austria.
