Hewlett Packard beats Q3 estimates on AI server demand

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) beat analysts’ revenue estimates for Q3 2025, reporting US$9.1 billion as demand for servers and networking equipment increased.

Revenue from HPE’s server segment rose 16% year-on-year to US$4.9 billion, and networking revenue was up 54% to US$1.7 billion.

The company cited higher demand for AI-optimized servers using Nvidia’s latest GPUs as generative AI adoption grows.

HPE completed its US$14 billion acquisition of Juniper Networks in July, expanding its networking business.

The company expects Q4 revenue between US$9.7 billion and US$10.1 billion, above analyst forecasts.

HPE also raised its full-year 2025 revenue growth guidance to 14% to 16%, up from a prior range of 7% to 9%.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ AI infrastructure buildout is creating sustained server demand growth beyond typical cycles

HPE’s 16% server revenue growth to $4.9 billion reflects a broader infrastructure transformation driven by AI deployment, not just typical enterprise refresh cycles1.

Goldman Sachs projects data center demand will grow at a 17% compound annual growth rate through 2028, reaching 92 gigawatts by 2027—a 50% increase from current levels2. This sustained growth trajectory explains why HPE raised its full-year revenue guidance from 7-9% to 14-16%1.

The scale of this buildout is significant. NVIDIA alone could ship 1.5 million AI server units annually by 2027, consuming at least 85.4 terawatt-hours of electricity3. Data centers already consume a notable portion of electricity, such as 7.4% of Arizona’s electricity and 11.4% of Oregon’s total power supply4.

HPE’s AI-optimized servers powered by Nvidia processors are directly benefiting from this infrastructure wave, which differs from traditional server replacement cycles because it represents net new capacity rather than equipment upgrades.

2️⃣ Strategic timing of acquisitions can amplify market expansion opportunities

HPE’s networking revenue surge of 54% to $1.7 billion immediately following its $14 billion Juniper acquisition completion in July demonstrates how well-timed deals can capture market momentum1.

The networking segment typically grows faster than traditional server hardware, and HPE’s entry through acquisition allowed it to participate in the AI networking infrastructure buildout without years of internal development1.
