HD Hyundai Robotics, others file anti-dumping complaint on robots
HD Hyundai Robotics and four other South Korean robot manufacturers have filed anti-dumping complaints against Chinese and Japanese producers, alleging unfair pricing practices in articulated robots with at least four axes.
The firms accuse companies like Japan’s Fanuc and China’s Kuka of undercutting prices, with Chinese producers allegedly selling robots up to 60% cheaper to offload inventory amid weak domestic demand.
The Korea Trade Commission will decide within two months whether to launch an anti-dumping investigation, which could lead to provisional measures or tariffs within six months.
This is not South Korea’s first anti-dumping move in robotics, as similar tariffs were imposed in 2005 following a complaint from Hyundai Heavy Industries, the predecessor of HD Hyundai Robotics.
