HD Hyundai, Palantir, Siemens partner on AI shipbuilding

South Korea-based shipbuilder HD Hyundai is partnering with Palantir Technologies and Siemens to integrate AI and digital twin technology into its shipbuilding processes.

The “Future of Shipyard” (FOS) project, in development since 2021, aims to enhance automation and reduce human intervention.

Expected to be completed by 2030, it will boost productivity and cut shipbuilding time by 30%.

Palantir’s Foundry software is helping digitalize HD Hyundai’s shipyard operations, as showcased in a recent promotional video.

Meanwhile, Siemens and HD Hyundai have used Nvidia’s graphics technology to develop digital twins of shipyard designs. This technology was demonstrated at GTC 2024 with real-time visuals of a digital shipyard and an LNG carrier.

Expanding its global presence, HD Hyundai established a European R&D Center in Germany in 2022 and an India Technology Center in Pune in 2019.
