HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, a South Korea-based shipbuilder and engine maker, has signed a 956 billion won (US$675 million) contract with the US-based energy infrastructure developer Covant Energy Group to supply 1,000MW of power generation facilities for data centers in the US.

The deal follows a 684MW contract worth 627.1 billion won (US$443 million) with Aperion Energy Group in April.

The two contracts bring HD Hyundai Heavy Industries’ US data center power orders to 1,684MW and 1.6 trillion won (US$1.13 billion) in four months.

The facilities will use the company’s 9.6MW-class HiMSEN engines.

The engines were previously used for ship propulsion and onboard power generation but are now being deployed in data centers as operators seek power equipment that can be installed faster.

The shift comes as electricity supply tightens amid growing demand from AI and cloud workloads.
