HashKey reportedly raises $206m in Hong Kong IPO
HashKey Holdings has raised HK$1.6 billion (US$206 million) in its Hong Kong IPO after pricing shares near the top of the marketed range, according to sources familiar with the deal.
HashKey operates Hong Kong’s largest licensed crypto-exchange and also runs venture capital and asset management businesses.
The company sold 240.6 million shares at HK$6.68 (US$0.76) each, with the offering range set between HK$5.95 (US$0.86) and HK$6.95 (US$0.89).
About 80% of institutional tranche shares, excluding those for cornerstone investors, were allocated to the top 20 entities, the sources said.
Investor demand reportedly exceeded the number of shares on offer.
HashKey’s shares are expected to start trading on December 17.
JP Morgan Chase and Guotai Junan acted as joint sponsors for the deal.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
HashKey IPO pricing signals confidence and tight allocations
- HashKey priced shares at HK$6.68 near the top of its HK$5.95–6.95 range. The deal raised about HK$1.6 billion. It signals institutional appetite for Hong Kong’s crypto rulebook and its fundamentals.
- About 80% of the institutional tranche (the portion reserved for professional investors) excluding cornerstone investors (large pre-committed backers) went to the top 20. A small group of big investors drove demand. Retail buyers played a smaller role than in consumer tech IPOs.
- Deal reports called HashKey Hong Kong’s largest licensed crypto exchange. The Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) runs a strict licensing process with on-site inspections, penetration tests, and external assessments 1. That creates high barriers to entry that may have supported pricing.
Hong Kong VATPs drive demand for licensed crypto infrastructure
- As of June 2025, 11 licensed Virtual Asset Trading Platforms (VATPs) operated in Hong Kong. More applicants are pending and the SFC’s public VATP lists track a growing customer base for compliance infrastructure vendors 1.
- The SFC’s custody and platform security expectations are pushing providers like Thales (a cybersecurity plus defense technology company) to align with these standards. Examples include Hardware Security Modules (HSMs), role-based access controls, and data encryption 2.
- Investors backing HashKey’s IPO will need custody, fiat on/off-ramp services (converting between government-issued money/crypto), and broker connectivity to access Hong Kong’s licensed crypto markets. That demand creates openings for business-to-business (B2B) providers that can work within the regulatory framework while these institutions avoid unlicensed platforms.
