Grindr, a dating app for gay and bisexual men, plans to launch an AI “wingman” in 2027, as it reflects a growing trend in employing AI within social interactions, particularly in dating.

The AI “wingman” will act as a digital assistant, aiding Grindr’s 14 million users in managing conversations with their favorite contacts.

It will also suggest potential long-term partners and recommend ideal dating locations.

Grindr’s CEO, George Arison, said by 2027, the AI could expand to facilitate restaurant reservations and interact with other AI agents.

Although competitors like Bumble, Tinder, and Hinge have integrated AI for profile optimization, none have deployed fully autonomous AI agents capable of independently arranging dates.

Privacy remains critical, however, especially given Grindr’s past issues regarding location data, which raised alarms among users in less accepting regions.

The company has said it would handle user data responsibly and requires consent for using any data in AI training.

Grindr partnered with Ex-human to develop an AI model attuned to the conversational patterns and linguistic nuances of the queer community.
