Green SM launches electric taxis in Kazakhstan
Green SM, an electric ride-hailing company founded in Vietnam, launched in Almaty on June 23, making Kazakhstan its first Central Asian market.
The service starts with VinFast vehicles that users can book through the Green SM app.
The company said it had also formed five partnerships across transportation, tourism, technology, and services. To mark the launch, it is offering a 26% discount, capped at KZT 2,626.
The company was founded by Vingroup chairman Phạm Nhật Vượng and operates electric taxi and vehicle rental services using VinFast models, showing the group ties behind the Kazakhstan rollout.
Green SM is entering a market where Yandex Go controls 90% of Kazakhstan’s taxi market, according to Kazakhstan’s competition agency, which has been reviewing pricing and market conditions.
Public charging maps also show chargers in Almaty, which lists stations in the country.
This suggests some electric vehicle infrastructure is already in place as Green SM expands beyond Vietnam to Laos, Indonesia, the Philippines, India, and now Kazakhstan.
