GovTech lays off 38 more as it shifts tech work in-house

GovTech, Singapore’s government technology agency, has laid off 38 employees in the second of three planned rounds of cuts as it seeks to reduce reliance on vendors and build more product capability in-house.

The affected roles were mainly in traditional project delivery.

GovTech said 106 officers will remain in their current roles, while another 106 can enter conversion and apprenticeship pathways.

After 93 layoffs in July, 131 employees have been laid off so far.

The agency expects 7% to 9% of its workforce to be affected over the next two years.

The agency is also hiring an engineering manager for apps product, recruiting a product manager, and seeking a lead or senior product manager for its housing program.

GovTech’s outcome-based procurement guidance focuses on specifying outcomes rather than detailed technical requirements.
