US gov’t agency to shut down 8,000 EV chargers
The General Services Administration (GSA) is planning to deactivate all its electric vehicle (EV) chargers across the United States.
An internal announcement regarding the shutdown is expected next week, according to a source familiar with the plans.
The GSA currently operates several hundred EV charging stations, providing approximately 8,000 plugs for government-owned EVs and personal vehicles of federal employees.
Regional offices have begun the process of taking chargers offline, with some stations set to be turned off as early as next week.
Under President Joe Biden’s administration, the GSA was tasked with supporting federal sustainability goals.
The GSA has not released a public statement regarding this decision.
