US government’s Intel stake hits $14b after Nvidia deal

Intel shares jumped up to 28% on September 18, 2025 after Nvidia agreed to invest US$5 billion and co-develop chips for PCs and data centers.

This marks Intel’s largest single-day rally in nearly 40 years.

The investment comes shortly after the US government sealed a deal for a roughly 10% stake in Intel, agreeing to purchase 433.3 million shares at US$20.47 each.

Intel said it has issued 274.6 million shares to the Department of Commerce, with the remaining 158.7 million shares placed in escrow pending further government disbursements under the Chips Act.

The US stake’s value rose to around US$14 billion following the September 18, 2025 surge, a US$4.9 billion paper gain since the August deal.

Intel’s market valuation has reached its highest level since the dot-com era, now trading at 57 times projected 12-month earnings.
