1️⃣ Founder departures signal GoTo’s maturation from startup to established corporation
GoTo’s recent executive changes continue a larger pattern of founder exits that began well before these latest resignations.
The company has now seen nearly all its original founding team depart, including Gojek and Tokopedia founders who drove the 2021 merger that created the Indonesian tech giant.
Andre Soelistyo stepped down as commissioner in May 2024, while William Tanuwijaya and Melissa Siska Juminto had previously left their positions, indicating a complete transition away from founder leadership 12.
This leadership evolution mirrors similar patterns in mature tech companies worldwide, where founding entrepreneurs typically step aside as companies evolve into more structured corporate entities with professional management.
The timing aligns with GoTo’s improving financial performance. The company reduced quarterly losses by 60% year-over-year while growing revenue by 4% to 4.2 trillion rupiah in Q1 2025, suggesting the transition is supporting operational improvements 3.
