GoTo faces $2.6m lawsuit from ex-Gojek product officer
Goto Group is facing a lawsuit from former executive Bruce McRae Haldane, who is seeking 43.2 billion rupiah (US$2.59 million) in damages.
Haldane, who served as chief product officer at Gojek from 2020 to 2023, filed the case at the South Jakarta District Court.
Goto Group, an Indonesia-based tech company, said the dispute centers on differing interpretations of terms related to Haldane’s employment termination.
The company said the case is an individual industrial relations matter and does not materially affect its operations.
Goto Group said it will follow legal procedures and plans to appoint legal counsel to handle the proceedings, with the case registered as No. 1289/Pdt.G/2025/PN.Jkt.sel on November 24, 2025.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Rp 43.2b equals 0.24% of Goto Group cash, limited effect on operations
- The Rp 43.2 billion claim equals about 0.24% of Goto Group’s Rp 18 trillion in cash, cash equivalents and short-term deposits as of September 30, 2025, so it does not strain liquidity.
- Goto Group logged its first adjusted pre-tax profit of Rp 62 billion in Q3 2025 and lifted full-year adjusted EBITDA guidance to Rp 1.8–1.9 trillion. EBITDA means earnings before interest and taxes. It also adds back depreciation and amortization. One employment case will not change that trend.
- The dispute centers on how the contract handled termination terms rather than on wrongdoing, which puts it in the usual executive separation category, not an operations problem.
Human resources (HR) compliance vendors can serve Indonesia tech as termination disputes rise
- From January to May 2025, Indonesia logged 838 layoff disputes, and 70% of all industrial relations cases involved termination issues such as severance math and process steps.
- Manufacturing saw 45,762 layoffs from January to August 2024, after a recent Constitutional Court clarification tech firms like Goto Group face a changing legal framework that may require a court decision for some terminations to be binding.
- Legal technology (legaltech) firms and HR consultancies can pitch employment practices liability insurance (EPLI) plus software for compliant terminations to tech employers. Time outreach with the government’s planned monthly layoff statistics releases to stress prevention.
