Google’s $32b Wiz deal wins US Justice Department approval
Google’s planned US$32 billion acquisition of Wiz has cleared a key hurdle after completing antitrust review by the US Department of Justice.
Wiz CEO Assaf Rappaport said the DOJ has finished its antitrust review, but added that the deal still has a way to go before it officially closes.
Google first offered to buy Wiz for US$23 billion in 2024, but the startup declined.
Talks resumed in early 2025, leading to the US$32 billion agreement announced in March.
The deal is expected to be completed in early 2026.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Reviews outside the U.S. keep timing uncertain
- The US Department of Justice (DOJ) closed its antitrust review 1, though Wiz CEO Assaf Rappaport said other authorities still have it 1.
- A European Commission (the EU’s executive arm) review remains possible, with no formal proceeding yet 2.
- A federal judge in Virginia will soon decide whether to force sale of parts of Google’s ad tech (advertising technology) unit 1, a ruling that could shape scrutiny of this $32 billion deal, the largest cybersecurity acquisition 3.
- Multi-jurisdiction (multi-country) reviews add time, so an early 2026 close looks ambitious.
Security vendors and cloud rivals should prepare for CNAPP consolidation
- Cloud-Native Application Protection Platform (CNAPP) integrates cloud security posture management, workload protection, plus entitlement management 4. Revenue grows 20% yearly from an $11.43 billion base 4.
- Endpoint-security company SentinelOne bought cloud security firm PingSafe 5, and vulnerability-management vendor Tenable acquired identity-focused cloud security firm Ermetic 6, pushing vendors without CNAPP to pursue deals or partnerships before prices rise.
- Enterprises running Wiz on Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Microsoft Azure may rethink setups if multi-cloud support (spanning multiple cloud providers) slips after the sale 7. That could create room for Trend Micro 7 or Palo Alto Networks to pitch provider-agnostic options 4.
- IT services firms (systems integrators) should build teams for CNAPP migration and consolidation. The $32 billion price implies a 45-50x revenue multiple 3 (price divided by annual revenue), pushing Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) to defend budgets and trim point tools.
