Google to spend $9b on AI, cloud expansion in Oklahoma
Google will invest US$9 billion over the next two years to expand its AI and cloud infrastructure in Oklahoma.
The company will build a new data center campus in Stillwater and expand its Pryor facility to increase US AI and cloud capacity.
Some of the funding is part of Google’s 2025 capital expenditure plan, while the rest is for future spending.
Alphabet, Google’s parent, raised its annual capital spending plan to about US$85 billion last month.
Google also committed US$1 billion to AI education and training for US higher education institutions and nonprofits, with over 100 universities joining.

🧠 Food for thought
1️⃣ Oklahoma represents Google’s longest-standing regional data center commitment
Google’s $9 billion Oklahoma investment builds on an 18-year strategic relationship that began in 2007 when the company first proposed building a data center in Pryor1.
By 2019, Google had already invested over $3 billion in the state through multiple expansions, including a $600 million expansion in 2019 that brought total employment to over 500 people at the Pryor facility2.
The new $9 billion commitment represents a tripling of Google’s cumulative Oklahoma investment, signaling the state’s emergence as a critical hub in Google’s global infrastructure network.
This sustained regional focus demonstrates how tech giants build long-term partnerships with specific locations rather than constantly shifting infrastructure investments, creating deeper economic roots and workforce development over decades.
The Pryor facility has undergone four separate expansions since opening, including the acquisition of a former Gatorade plant in 2013, showing Google’s methodical approach to scaling capacity in proven locations3.
2️⃣ Infrastructure spending arms race reaches unprecedented scale as AI competition intensifies
Alphabet’s capex increase from $75 billion to $85 billion reflects the massive infrastructure requirements driving Big Tech competition, with Google’s Oklahoma investment representing just one piece of this broader spending surge.
The company previously invested $13 billion across U.S. data centers in 2019 alone, creating tens of thousands of jobs and 10,000 construction positions4.
