A US federal judge is considering whether Alphabet’s Google can bundle its Gemini AI service with popular apps like Maps and YouTube, after a Justice Department proposal sought to ban the practice.

During a hearing on October 8, 2025, Google’s lawyer argued there is no evidence the company holds monopoly power in AI, Maps, or YouTube, and said Google should be allowed to bundle its products as rivals do.

Judge Amit Mehta, who previously ruled that Google monopolized search and search ad, is weighing remedies to address the company’s conduct.

The Justice Department wants the same restrictions on bundling to apply to Gemini as to Google Search, Chrome, and Play Store.
