Google has launched the mobile version of its Gemini AI chatbot in Hong Kong, and the app later ranked as the most downloaded on Apple’s App Store as of March 27.

Gemini had previously been unavailable to most residents, with access limited to select users.

The earlier lack of availability pushed some users to rely on VPNs or third-party services to bypass regional blocks, as other AI developers such as OpenAI and Anthropic have blocked Hong Kong IP addresses amid regulatory and compliance uncertainties.

Google describes Gemini as a multimodal tool that can process text, images, and audio inputs.
