Google launches Gemini app for Windows

Google said on September 10 it launched the Gemini app for Windows, letting users open the AI assistant from the desktop with the Alt + Space shortcut without leaving their screen.

The app is available globally for Windows 10 and 11.

Users can draft documents, write summaries, create images, and pull information from Google services such as Gmail and Drive.

Google said more native desktop features for Gemini on Windows will roll out over time.

Google’s access to Gmail and Drive appears to rely on existing Google Workspace extensions, rather than a Windows-specific integration.

Workspace administrators can control that access through app access settings for Workspace services.

The launch puts Gemini on a platform where Microsoft’s Copilot is already integrated into Windows, while OpenAI also offers a Windows app for ChatGPT.
