Google grows Singapore mosquito lab with AI, robotics
Google’s mosquito control initiative Debug said on May 12 it is expanding its Singapore operations into its first R&D hub outside the US.
The company said it will added engineering and mosquito science staff to scale Wolbachia-based releases with AI and robotics.
Debug has worked with Singapore’s National Environment Agency on Project Wolbachia since 2018 and now releases more than 10 million male Wolbachia-carrying mosquitoes a week.
Trials showed 80% to 90% suppression of Aedes aegypti and more than 70% fewer dengue cases after 6 to 12 months, the agency said.
Debug added that it has released over 1 billion male mosquitoes globally.
