Google expands Beam video-calling to six countries
Google said on September 23 that it is expanding Beam, its video-calling system, to customers in six countries.
The rollout will use hardware from HP and support from 18 channel partners.
Selected Industrious workspaces in the US will begin offering bookings from October.
The rollout covers the US, Canada, the UK, France, Germany, and Japan.
Industrious, a workspace operator, will offer bookings in Atlanta, Chicago, New York City, and Palo Alto.
Google cited an eight-week internal study to support use in recruiting, talent development, and collaboration across teams.
The company said it also partnered earlier this year with Bain & Company to test Beam for campus recruiting and candidate interviews.
HP packages the product as HP Dimension with Google Beam, an enterprise 3D collaboration system.
One industry analysis estimated the price at about US$25,000.
That puts Beam in a market where Cisco already sells business video-conferencing systems.
