Google, Digital Industry SG launch AI program for enterprises

Google Cloud has partnered with Digital Industry Singapore (DISG) to launch the “AI Cloud Takeoff” (AI CTO) program, aiming to help 300 Singapore-based companies establish AI Centers of Excellence (AI CoEs) within the next year.

This program is part of the Singapore Government’s Enterprise Compute Initiative, announced in the Budget 2025 statement.

It follows a pilot program conducted in November 2024, which collaborated with 30 companies to develop AI-driven solutions.

Philbert Gomez, Senior Vice President of DISG, said that the initiative aims to accelerate AI adoption among local businesses to improve efficiency and competitiveness.

Participants will have access to AI capacity-building workshops, technical consulting, Google Cloud credits, and implementation services.

Additionally, financial incentives of up to SG$500,000 (US$370,000) will be provided by DISG and Google Cloud as companies reach program milestones.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ AI Centers of Excellence address the execution gap hindering widespread AI adoption

Google Cloud and Singapore’s AI CTO program address a critical challenge: while many organizations aspire to implement AI, most struggle with execution.

Research shows that only 20% of companies have achieved advanced analytics capabilities, and approximately 80% will fail to realize AI’s full potential due to expertise shortages and implementation challenges 1.

By establishing dedicated AI Centers of Excellence, organizations can centralize AI strategies, enabling consistency, resource optimization, and effective risk management across departments 2.

The structured approach of Singapore’s program, providing technical consultancy, implementation services, and financial incentives, directly tackles the barriers that prevent organizations from translating AI experimentation into production-ready solutions.

This model mirrors successful implementations at organizations like Cisco Systems, which have used CoEs to democratize AI knowledge and streamline operations through centralized expertise 1.

2️⃣ Singapore positions itself strategically in the global AI economy through government-industry collaboration

The AI CTO initiative represents Singapore’s strategic response to the substantial economic opportunity AI presents, with research indicating AI could generate over SGD $53 billion in value through enhanced labor productivity over the next decade 3.
