Google debuts Android CLI 1.0 for AI agents

Google introduced several Android developer updates at its Google I/O event on May 19, including a stable Android CLI 1.0.

The company also unveiled prompt-based native app building in Google AI Studio, Android support in Antigravity, and a feature that letes developers send test updates to Google Play from Android Studio.

The Android CLI is designed for AI coding agents such as Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, Gemini, and Antigravity.

It lets them access Android Studio knowledge through an “android studio” command plus other tools for development tasks.

Google said the changes are meant to help developers build and test apps for Android’s roughly 3 billion users across different devices and coding platforms.
