Google cuts over 100 design roles in cloud unit

Google has laid off over 100 staff in design-related roles, CNBC reported.

The move affected teams in the cloud unit, including quantitative user experience research and platform and service experience, with some teams cut by half.

Most of the impacted employees are based in the US, and some were given until early December to find new roles within the company.

The layoffs follow broader cuts at Google this year, which included voluntary exit packages and buyouts across departments such as human resources, hardware, ad, finance, search, marketing, and commerce.

Google has been increasing its focus on AI infrastructure and encouraging employees to use more AI tools in daily work.

Earlier this year, Google eliminated more than one-third of its managers overseeing small teams.
