Google is laying off hundreds of employees across its digital assistant, hardware, and engineering departments as part of its initiative to cut costs and streamline operations.

The internet giant said the affected staff will be able to apply for other positions within Google. The Alphabet Workers Union has called the move “needless” in a post, saying that the firm “cannot continue to fire our coworkers while making billions every quarter.”
