Google, Coinbase launch AI payments with stablecoin support

Google has launched an open-source payments protocol that enables AI agents to send and receive money, including transactions with US dollar-pegged stablecoins.

The standard was developed with Coinbase and involved input from over 60 companies, such as Salesforce, American Express, and Etsy.

This builds on Google’s Agent-to-Agent (A2A) framework released in April, which set standards for agent communication, and now adds payments capability.

The new protocol allows software agents to authenticate transactions and move value autonomously over both card networks and blockchain, while verifying user consent and applying safeguards.
