BNP Paribas, a France-based banking group, said on September 24 that it had signed a five-year partnership with Google Cloud to expand access to cloud infrastructure and AI tools, including Gemini Enterprise and Gemini models, as part of its multi-cloud strategy.

Initial work would focus on the bank’s Corporate & Institutional Banking unit.

BNP Paribas said it planned to integrate Gemini models into its internal assistant LLM@CIB, which is available to more than 65,000 employees.

The bank also plans to deploy AI agents for workflows such as preparing corporate credit memos.

The deal appears incremental rather than exclusive. BNP Paribas has also partnered with Oracle and signed a multi-year agreement with IBM Cloud as part of its cloud strategy.

Google Cloud technologies are already deployed at Nickel, BNP Paribas’ payment account business, which the bank acquired in 2017.

There, Gemini is the base model for Nickel Assist, which helps 200 customer advisers answer customer requests using Nickel’s procedures and operating guidelines.

BNP Paribas also said certain categories of data would not be stored in a public cloud environment.
