Google may buy $12.2b of Marvell stock by 2033
Marvell Technology, a US chipmaker, said its shares rose nearly 10% on August 19 after a securities filing showed Google could buy up to $12.2 billion of its stock through fiscal 2033.
The potential purchases are part of an expanded custom-chip partnership between the two companies.
The filing said Google may buy 58,970,907 shares at $206.58 each, with the potential stake tied to purchasing targets through fiscal 2033.
Marvell said the expanded agreement covers products that “attach to the tensor processing unit (TPU) ecosystem,” including AI inference accelerators, and storage and network interface controllers.
Google’s TPUs are custom chips built to accelerate machine learning training and inference workloads.
The arrangement adds to Google’s broader custom-chip supplier base.
Google has largely worked with Broadcom on custom chips, and the companies expanded that deal in April.
Separately, Google and Marvell were reported in April to have reached a deal for AI workloads.
