Google expands cloud security with Wiz, AI agents
Google used its Cloud Next ’26 event to add security features and place Wiz, the Israeli cloud security firm it bought for US$32 billion, deeper into Google Cloud and rival platforms.
Google put three AI agents for Security Operations into preview for threat hunting, detection engineering, and third-party context.
It added dark web monitoring to its threat intelligence tools.
Google cited its M-Trends 2026 report, which said the gap between an initial breach and a follow-on attacker fell from eight hours three years ago to 22 seconds.
Wiz will expand to Databricks and AI toolchains from Amazon Web Services, plus Microsoft, Salesforce, and Google.
Google plans to scan AI code and prompts during development to spot vulnerabilities and configuration issues before deployment.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Google’s US$32 billion bid raises the stakes in cloud security
- Google’s US$32 billion cash purchase is the biggest deal in its history and the largest cybersecurity takeover so far. It also tops the US$23 billion bid Wiz turned down two years earlier 1.
- At roughly 45 to 65 times Wiz’s estimated US$700 million in revenue, the price signals how badly Google wants this asset 2.
- The company gets a leader in Cloud-Native Application Protection Platform (CNAPP), tools that protect apps from development through live operation 3.
- Wiz uses an agentless setup that scans cloud systems without software on each machine. That gives security teams a real-time view of weaknesses 1.
The deal tests trust in multi-cloud security
- Wiz plans to keep working across Amazon Web Services (AWS), Amazon’s cloud computing platform, and Microsoft. That eases fears that it could become a Google Cloud Platform (GCP)-first tool with weaker support elsewhere 4.
- Google and Wiz have both said Wiz will stay neutral and keep supporting multiple cloud platforms 5, 6.
- That promise places a Google-owned product inside rival cloud systems. It leaves open whether AWS and Microsoft will keep cooperating with a tool that helps a direct competitor 4.
- For Alphabet, Google’s parent, the purchase is a long-term bet on enterprise security and cloud computing. It also adds a growth path as advertising faces pressure from AI disruption and regulation 2.
