Google has appointed Koray Kavukcuoglu as its new chief AI architect, according to an internal memo from CEO Sundar Pichai.

Kavukcuoglu is currently the chief technology officer of DeepMind AI lab and will also serve as a senior vice president, reporting directly to Pichai.

In his new role, Kavukcuoglu will focus on integrating AI models into Google’s products.

He will maintain his responsibilities as CTO of DeepMind while relocating from London to California.

This appointment comes as Alphabet, Google’s parent company, faces pressure to show returns on its projected US$75 billion in AI-related investments for the year.

The company aims to enhance AI integration across its platforms to compete with other AI providers.
