Google, AirTrunk add solar power for AI demand
Google, AirTrunk, and European Energy Australia said the Mulwala Solar Farm in New South Wales’ Riverina district is nearing completion and is about to connect to the National Electricity Market, as electricity demand from AI and cloud infrastructure rises.
AirTrunk, a Sydney-headquartered data center operator, and Google have a long-term power purchase agreement for the project, which European Energy Australia is developing.
The companies said the solar farm is intended to add new renewable generation rather than draw on existing clean power.
European Energy’s project page lists Mulwala at about 31 megawatts of installed capacity and 66 gigawatt-hours of annual output, about two kilometers north of Mulwala.
However, the current joint announcement and earlier deal announcements described it as 25 megawatts of new capacity, without clarifying whether that refers to the full plant or only the contracted share.
Public materials do not disclose the project’s exact registration or commissioning stage with the market operator.
Google said the launch follows renewable energy deals in Malaysia, India, Taiwan, and Singapore.
