Goldman Sachs leads $50m series F of Japan-US legal AI startup

LegalOn Technologies, a legal AI startup based in Tokyo and San Francisco, has raised US$50 million in its series E round.

The funding was led by Goldman Sachs Alternatives, with participation from World Innovation Lab, Mori Hamada & Matsumoto, Mizuho Bank, and Shoko Chukin Bank.

This brings LegalOn’s total funding to US$200 million.

Founded in 2017, LegalOn develops AI tools to streamline contract reviews by identifying legal risks and providing attorney-backed recommendations.

Its products, used by over 7,000 companies, also track contract requests across platforms like Slack and email.

The company plans to expand in the US and UK and create more AI-driven legal tools.

It also announced a new partnership with OpenAI to integrate legal data with enterprise AI tools for improving legal workflows.
