Gobi Partners backs crypto payments firm Transak for Asia expansion
Gobi Partners said it has made an undisclosed investment in Transak, a digital asset payments infrastructure firm headquartered in Miami with an Asia-Pacific headquarters in Hong Kong.
It aims to support the company’s expansion in Asia as regulated stablecoin and crypto payment rails gain traction.
Transak said its platform lets fintechs and financial institutions convert between fiat currencies and digital assets through one API while handling KYC, AML, licensing, and local payment integrations across more than 64 countries.
The company said it has more than 600 integrations, serves over 10 million users, and holds more than 21 regulatory approvals across markets including the US, the UK, the euro zone, Australia, Canada, and India.
Transak has set up its Asia-Pacific headquarters in Hong Kong and plans to deepen ties with regional payment networks and banks to expand across ASEAN, the companies said.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Tether-led funding round underscores Transak’s push into stablecoin payments
- Gobi Partners did not share the size of its investment. The stake follows a US$16 million strategic round for Transak led by Tether, the issuer of the USDT stablecoin, and IDG Capital, an investment firm 1.
- Stablecoins already matter to the business. Nearly 30% of Transak’s more than US$2 billion in processed transaction volume comes from stablecoin flows 1.
- Timing favors the strategy. The global stablecoin market hit US$280 billion in September 2025, while stablecoins make up about 70% of all transaction volume on public blockchains, which are open digital ledgers that record crypto transactions 2.
Stablecoin rules add a new compliance load for crypto infrastructure
- Transak’s Hong Kong expansion lines up with the city’s Stablecoins Ordinance. It requires licensing, full reserve backing, plus HK$25 million (US$3.2 million) in paid-up share capital for licensed issuers 3.
- Similar regimes are taking shape in the European Union (EU), US, and Singapore. Meeting rules in several places can price out most crypto infrastructure companies 4.
- That pressure helps firms like Transak that act as middlemen. It offers one API, or application programming interface, that supports local payment methods plus compliance tools such as Know Your Customer (KYC), fraud prevention, and banking partnerships, cutting day-to-day overhead for partners 1.
