GMI Cloud to build $500m AI data center with Nvidia chips
GMI Cloud has launched a US$500 million AI Factory in Taiwan, equipped with 7,000 Nvidia Blackwell Ultra GPUs and 96 high-density racks.
GMI Cloud is a US-based provider of GPU infrastructure and AI services.
The new facility is designed to support large-scale AI model training and deployment for enterprises, and is expected to process close to 2 million tokens per second.
Partners in the initiative include Wistron, Trend Micro, VAST Data, and TECO, which will use the infrastructure for projects in manufacturing automation, cybersecurity, data management, and energy optimization.
The AI Factory uses Nvidia’s latest hardware and networking technologies to provide scalable computing resources for businesses in Taiwan.
Several companies plan to leverage the facility for real-world AI applications, such as Trend Micro’s digital twin cybersecurity, Wistron’s AI manufacturing, and TECO’s energy solutions.
GMI Cloud says the launch highlights increasing investment in AI infrastructure in Asia as companies seek advanced computing capabilities.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
The facility’s 16 MW power budget may bottleneck 7,000 Blackwell GPUs before full use
- At 16 megawatts 1, 7,000 GPUs get about 2.3 kW each. CPUs and cooling also draw from that pool, so headroom looks tight 1.
- That limit may drive phased commissioning through 2026 or stricter power management such as power capping. The stated capacity might be nameplate, not day-one output, which is common in data center rollouts.
- Taiwan faces power supply strain 2. The site targets service by March 2026 3, so early runs may favor partial workloads while capacity ramps.
Partner opportunities for reselling packaged AI workloads to Asia-Pacific (APAC) enterprises via GMI’s program
- GMI Cloud runs a partner program that recruits system integrators (SIs) and AI/ML consultants 4. It advertises 2.5 month bare-metal GPU delivery, faster than the 5-6 month industry norm, plus lower prices from supply chain leverage.
- Regional SIs and value-added resellers (VARs) can bundle Taiwan capacity with localized Machine Learning Operations (MLOps), compliance help, and industry model tuning. Targets include manufacturing and telecom, where firms want services around the GPUs.
- Partners should confirm that the program applies to the Taiwan site and lock terms for referral fees or revenue share on multi-year training or inference deals. Go-to-market plans need to match the Blackwell rollout, which is slated for March 2026 3.
