GMI Cloud draws $947m in loan commitments
GMI Cloud, a US-based AI infrastructure provider and Nvidia partner, has drawn about NT$30 billion (US$947 million) in commitments for a five-year loan backed by future sales of AI computing power, according to a report.
The commitments are more than double its NT$13.9 billion (US$439 million) target.
The financing, coordinated by CTBC Bank, a Taiwan-based lender, would fund graphics processing units (GPUs) for GMI Cloud’s planned Taiwan data center.
Another report put the project at US$500 million, and the company has been named an Nvidia Reference Platform Cloud Partner.
The report said Nvidia will supply the GPUs and lease any unused computing capacity for as long as six years at an agreed price.
In return, Nvidia would take half the revenue GMI Cloud makes from other AI companies.
The report also said US-based Fireworks AI, which develops AI models and infrastructure, has agreed to lease some capacity for four years.
The structure is among the first such arrangements being tested in Asia, though GPU-backed financing is also gaining traction elsewhere in the region.
