Global sales of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles rose by 18% year-on-year in January 2025, totaling 1.3 million units, according to data from Rho Motion.

For the first time since February 2024, sales growth in Europe and North America outpaced that of China.

In Europe, EV sales increased by 21% to 250,000 units, driven by newly implemented CO2 emission targets by the European Union.

In the United States and Canada, EV sales climbed by 22.1%, reaching 130,000 units. Other global regions also saw a notable increase, with sales rising by 50% year-on-year.

In China, sales reached 700,000 units, reflecting an 11.8% year-on-year increase but a significant 43% drop from December, likely due to the Chinese New Year holiday.
