Global crypto platform HTX lists new US dollar-backed coin

HTX, a global cryptocurrency exchange, has announced the listing of USD1, a stablecoin pegged 1:1 to the US dollar. This marks the first platform to supports trading of the digital asset.

USD1 is issued by World Liberty Financial (WLFI) and custodied by BitGo Trust Company, ensuring compliance with US financial regulations.

During the TOKEN 2049 event, WLFI co-founder Zach Witkoff discussed challenges in traditional finance, such as lack of transparency and inefficient cross-border payments.

USD1 aims to address these issues through compliance and transparency, including monthly audit reports and public disclosed asset reserves.

Founded in 2013, HTX has grown from virtual asset exchange into a full blockchain ecosystem. Its business now spans digital asset trading, financial derivatives, research, investments, incubation, and more.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Stablecoin market maturity demands differentiation beyond compliance claims

USD1 enters an increasingly competitive stablecoin landscape that has grown substantially in recent years, with the total market reaching approximately US$223 billion in capitalization 1.

The new entrant will need to distinguish itself in a market where transaction volume has already reached remarkable levels. Stablecoins facilitated US$8.5 trillion in transactions in Q2 2024 alone, surpassing Visa’s transaction volume 1.

While USD1 emphasizes compliance and transparency, this has become a standard position rather than a differentiator, as evidenced by ongoing regulatory developments in major jurisdictions including the EU’s MiCA framework and pending US legislation 2.

World Liberty Financial’s rapid achievement of US$2.12 billion in market cap is notable, but still places them well behind market leaders like Tether (USDT), which dominates the stablecoin sector 1.

2️⃣ Strategic timing leverages regulatory transition period

USD1’s launch comes during what experts are calling a pivotal year for stablecoin regulation, with multiple jurisdictions moving toward comprehensive frameworks 2.

The listing coincides with the US Congress advancing two major pieces of stablecoin legislation – the GENIUS Act and STABLE Act – which are expected to be enacted before the August 2025 congressional recess 3.

By establishing BitGo Trust Company as custodian, USD1 appears positioned to meet anticipated regulatory requirements like reserve standards and licensing for issuers that feature prominently in pending legislation 3.
