GitHub AI assistant sets new limits, adds premium model fees
GitHub, a subsidiary of Microsoft, announced changes to its AI-powered coding assistant, Copilot. Starting May 5, the system will impose monthly caps on tasks using advanced AI models like Anthropic’s 3.7 Sonnet.
Copilot Pro users, who pay US$20 per month, will get 300 premium requests. Copilot Business and Enterprise users will receive 300 and 1,000 premium requests, respectively.
These changes will roll out between May 12 and May 19.
Users who exceed their monthly limit can buy extra requests at US$0.04 each or upgrade to the new Copilot Pro+ plan.
Priced at US$39 per month, the plan offers 1,500 premium requests and access to enhanced AI models, such as OpenAI’s GPT-4.5.
The price hike reflects the higher computational costs of newer models, which demand more resources for accuracy and reliability.
According to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, GitHub Copilot remains a key driver of GitHub’s revenue growth.
