Merck is assessing Indian suppliers as it prepares to support the country’s growing semiconductor sector, according to Kai Beckmann, CEO of Merck’s electronics division.

The German chemicals company is evaluating suppliers for materials like fluorine-based chemicals and specialty solvents used in chip manufacturing, but noted operational gaps that need to be addressed.

On September 2, 2025, Tata Electronics and Merck signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly develop semiconductor materials, fabrication infrastructure, and chemical and gas distribution for Tata’s planned fab in Dholera, Gujarat.

Merck will provide a range of products and services for the Tata fab, including electronic materials and infrastructure solutions.
