German watchdog reviews Apple’s new app-tracking rules
Germany’s antitrust regulator is reviewing Apple’s revised app tracking rules to determine if they address competition concerns.
The authority is consulting publishers, media groups, and data protection officials as part of a market test before making a final decision.
Apple agreed to make its consent prompts neutral for both its own services and third-party apps, and to align the messages’ wording and design.
The company also suggested changes to let developers seek user permission for ad data processing in line with data protection laws.
However, Apple’s proposals do not include changes to how it measures ad performance, a practice the regulator remains critical of.
