General Catalyst leads $20m round for Indian defense tech firm
Hyderabad-based defense startup Constelli has raised US$20 million in a funding round led by Silicon Valley firm General Catalyst, with participation from 360 One Asset Management and existing investor Pravega Ventures, CEO Satya Gopal Panigrahi said.
Constelli develops electronic intelligence and signal processing systems and plans to use the funds for research and development of electronic warfare and communication payloads across drones, ground systems, naval vessels, and satellites, Panigrahi added.
The company also plans to set up infrastructure for rapid prototyping and early-stage production to speed up deployment of field-ready systems.
Founded in 2017 by Panigrahi and Avinash Chenreddy, Constelli started with software and hardware capabilities and is transitioning into a full systems player, he said.
The firm has exported to Singapore, Australia, and South Korea, and focuses on miniaturisation while benchmarking its products against international systems, Panigrahi noted.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Constelli’s funding looks like a leap, not a long runway
- Before the $20 million round, Constelli ran at a smaller scale, posting $1.78 million in annual revenue for the fiscal year ending March 2023 1.
- In January 2025, it brought in $3 million in a pre-Series A round led by Pravega Ventures 2.
- CEO Satya Gopal Panigrahi said the new money lets Constelli move beyond niche hardware and software work into full electronic intelligence, plus signal processing systems.
Policy is turning Indian defence into a new target for global capital
- India’s Atmanirbharta (self-reliance) drive is lifting demand for defence tech. The draft Defence Acquisition Procedure (DAP) 2026 backs procurement that favours indigenous design plus ownership of intellectual property (IP) 3.
- The Defence Acquisition Procedure shifts emphasis from Made in India to Owned by India in the draft DAP 2026. If executed well, the change could help defence startups build and scale technology 3.
- Panigrahi said government-led buying can lower market risk, which may draw overseas backers such as General Catalyst, lead investor in the $20 million round.
- Investor interest is rising as India’s defence exports grew from ’686 crore in FY 2013-14 to ’23,622 crore in FY 2024-25 4.
