General Catalyst joins $8m round for AI coding platform Kilo Code
Kilo Code has raised US$8 million in seed funding to support its AI coding platform.
The round was led by Cota Capital, with participation from Breakers, General Catalyst, Quiet Capital, and Tokyo Black.
Kilo Code said the new funding will be used to further develop its platform and expand its feature set for engineering teams.
Kilo Code develops an AI-powered software development platform aimed at improving developer productivity through agentic engineering.
The company said its platform has processed over 6 trillion tokens monthly and reached more than 750,000 downloads since launching earlier in 2025.
Recent releases include a Teams plan, Enterprise plan, and features such as parallel agents, code review, and autocomplete.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Missing context on Kilo Code’s free credits and monetization
- 6 trillion tokens monthly and 750,000 downloads came from a freemium setup that gave users free Large Language Model (LLM) credits without a payment method, like a credit card.
- Abuse followed when attackers created thousands of fake accounts to claim and resell credits, so Kilo Code added device fingerprinting (a technique that identifies browsers/devices to detect bots) to stop bot signups.
- Teams is $15 per user per month. Enterprise uses custom pricing yet ARR, paying customers, retention and free‑to‑paid conversion remain undisclosed.
- Usage analytics sit behind Teams or Enterprise and track only traffic through Kilo Gateway (its in-house proxy that routes and logs model traffic). Traffic with third‑party AI providers is not counted, which may understate adoption for a model‑agnostic platform (supports multiple AI models/providers).
Launch partner program for developers
- An AI Lab Launch Partner Program offers beta testing, intro pricing logistics, community launch amplification, and direct developer engagement for AI model providers seeking developers.
- It claims “Twice as Much Grok Code Usage as Any Other Platform” where Grok is an AI model from xAI, and it ran a stealth collaboration with Mistral AI (an AI model developer) to distribute new models.
- Labs can tap Kilo Code’s developer community, which includes engineers from Meta, Amazon, and Airbnb, to gather feedback and testimonials before a wider release.
- For teams that struggle with developer adoption, this gives a direct path to reach active builders instead of leaning on API marketplaces or self‑service distribution.
