General Atlantic-backed Amagi Media eyes $869m IPO valuation

Amagi Media Labs, a Bengaluru-based cloud software provider for broadcast and streaming TV, is targeting a valuation of over US$869 million in its upcoming initial public offering.

The IPO will open for bids from January 13 to January 16, 2026 with shares priced between 343 (US$3.81) and 361 rupees (US$4.01) each, aiming to raise US$199 million.

Anchor investors can join starting January 12, 2026.

Amagi was last valued at US$1.4 billion in 2022 after a US$100 million funding round led by General Atlantic.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Investors doubt ad-tech margins and connected TV (CTV) monetization as valuation falls

  • Amagi set an IPO target below $1 billion. That is about a 38% cut from its 2022 private $1.4 billion valuation and hints at investor caution around cloud-native ad-tech (advertising technology). It earned 64.7 million rupees in six months ended September 2025 after a 660.1 million rupee loss a year earlier.
  • Sports dominated Amagi-managed live events in Q1 2025 at 84% 1. That boosts engagement yet leads to lumpier revenue and higher cloud costs. Margins look less steady than on linear (scheduled) free ad-supported streaming television (FAST) channels.
  • In the U.S., 67% of viewers stream live events. FAST holds about 20% of media viewership yet only 8% of ad spend 2. That backdrop aligns with Amagi cutting the new-share issue size from 10.2 billion to 8.2 billion rupees.

Software-as-a-service (SaaS) firms in localization and monitoring can tap emerging FAST markets

  • Amagi will use IPO proceeds to upgrade cloud infrastructure and buy companies 3. Providers of AI-driven subtitle generation (automated captions), multi-language metadata tagging, and real-time stream-health monitoring can target these regions. Sports FAST channels rose from 107 to 220 in eight months 2.
  • Vertical (industry-specific) SaaS firms see rising demand. 47% of consumers would trial paid streaming for free live events, and 41% say live offerings significantly affect subscription decisions 2. That drives need for audience segmentation, ad insertion, and analytics that fit with Amagi’s core playout infrastructure. Playout software handles scheduling, channel delivery, and ads.
