Geely profit hits $2.4b as sales jump 40%
Geely Automobile Holdings Ltd, a Hangzhou carmaker, said full-year net income rose to about 16.9 billion yuan (US$2.45 billion) in 2025, while revenue climbed 25% to about 345 billion yuan (US$50.09 billion).
The result beat the 16.5 billion yuan (US$2.39 billion) average.
Excluding items such as gains from foreign exchange and the disposal of subsidiaries, underlying profit rose 36%.
Vehicle sales rose nearly 40% to about 3 million units.
Geely began a major overhaul under its Taizhou Declaration in late 2024, merging brands and cutting costs, as it aims to be among the top-five carmakers globally by 2030.
Geely outsold BYD globally in early 2026, though BYD remained ahead on revenue and profits.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Geely’s profit surprise came from deep internal cuts
- Profit growth in 2025 came with a clear trade-off.
- Sales rose by nearly 40%, while the average selling price per vehicle dropped to 96,000 yuan from 110,000 yuan in the first half of the year 1.
- Geely leaned on the Taizhou Declaration, launched in late 2024, to merge brands and trim spending while aiming for a top-five global ranking by 2030 2.
- After combining its premium brands Zeekr and Lynk & Co, Geely reduced development costs by 10-20% and procurement costs by 5-8%, which helped protect margins despite lower prices 3.
Geely’s overhaul puts pressure on global auto groups
- The approach offers a model for automakers with large brand lineups that need to move faster.
- BYD’s technological edge has narrowed as rivals close in, which BYD’s CEO has acknowledged 4.
- Geely consolidated brands to curb duplicate spending and rein in internal rivalry 5.
- It also plans to take its premium EV brand Zeekr private, which Geely said will improve efficiency and support longer-term priorities, while an internal memo attributed to Geely chairman Eric Li said the move would remove “capital-market noise” 3.
- Other multi-brand car groups may borrow these steps when trying to match the leaner cost base of more focused EV makers.
