GCash, BPC to roll out PocketPay for card-present transactions
GCash has partnered with payment solutions firm BPC to launch GCash PocketPay, a card-present payment acceptance tool using BPC’s SmartVista platform.
GCash, a mobile wallet operator based in the Philippines, said the new system allows any compatible NFC-enabled Android device to process card and contactless payments.
This move aims to enable over 6 million Filipino merchants and small businesses using GCash for Business to accept digital payments without additional hardware.
GCash PocketPay supports contactless Visa and Mastercard transactions, and is set to expand to QR payment options.
The company said merchants can track payments and manage transactions through the GCash for Business portal.
GCash did not disclose further financial details or a specific rollout timeline for the new service.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Point‑of‑sale software vendors can integrate loyalty and inventory apps if GCash for Business exposes partner APIs
- GCash runs an Application Programming Interface (API) Portal for selected partners with documentation and subscription management 3. Access is restricted to approved organizations, and no public catalog is visible.
- Independent software vendors and point‑of‑sale (POS) software‑as‑a‑service (SaaS) platforms that serve over 6 million GCash for Business merchants can bundle softPOS acceptance with inventory tracking and loyalty programs. They can also help merchants pick and set up compatible NFC‑enabled Android devices if GCash opens integration paths.
- Payments integrators and POS software vendors should confirm API availability and secure sandbox access 3. They should also agree on approval timelines through GCash’s partner onboarding process 3 to speed launches.
