Fujitsu, Fanuc to team with Nvidia on AI robots
Japan’s Fujitsu and robot makers Fanuc Corp., Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd., and Yaskawa Electric Corp. said on July 16 they would work together to develop robots using Nvidia technology for factories, retail, logistics, and healthcare, as competition from China intensifies.
The four Japanese companies will also join Nvidia’s Cosmos Coalition. Hitachi Ltd., NEC Corp., Komatsu Ltd., and Kubota Corp. are also joining the alliance, which focuses on physical AI.
Nvidia’s latest robotics push in Japan has included showcasing Holoscan IGX, Isaac for Healthcare, Isaac GR00T, Cosmos, and Metropolis software for hospitals, factories, retail, and public spaces.
Japan remains strong in industrial robots but lags in humanoid robots and broader AI-driven robotics.
Earlier Japanese humanoid projects fell short commercially.
Chinese humanoid robot suppliers, including UBTech and Unitree, are expanding, with reported 1,079 and 5,500 shipments in 2025.
