Freshworks weighs acquisitions with $800m cash pile, AI in focus

Freshworks, a US software company founded in Chennai, is considering new acquisitions with over US$800 million in cash, according to CEO Dennis Woodside.

The company is focusing on AI and employee experience software, and has spoken with potential targets in Israel, Europe, the US, and India.

Freshworks offers cloud-based software for customer service and IT support, and competes with Salesforce and ServiceNow.

The firm recently disclosed a deal to acquire incident management platform FireHydrant, after last year’s US$230 million purchase of Device42.

Freshworks reported US$813.2 million in cash, cash equivalents, and marketable securities, but did not disclose the size of potential deals.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Freshworks M&A still unproven

  • Freshworks announced it will buy FireHydrant without price or timing, after the Device42 buy that added a one-time $1M boost in Q3 2025 from its on-premises business 1.
  • Half of the top-ten contracts featured Device42, yet management has not shared retention or cross-sell beyond bundling 1.
  • CEO Dennis Woodside said the standalone Enterprise Service Management (ESM) product has a path to $100M Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR) 1. Management has not laid out deal sizes, ROI hurdles, or payback targets for future M&A 1.
  • Q4 2025 one-time spend goes to marketing for pipeline, which hints at a focus on new wins while integration work waits 1.

Partners can tap migration

  • A refreshed partner program launched with 500+ partners 2. It adds marketing development funds, regional sales help plus direct lead sharing for service-delivery firms, opening revenue for systems integrators (consultancies that implement and connect enterprise software) 2.
  • Consultancies can pitch migrations from incumbent customer service and IT service management platforms 1. Freshworks wins in lower enterprise and upper mid-market with faster deployment plus lower total cost of ownership (TCO) 1.
  • More than 50 AI apps plus Freddie Copilot (Freshworks’ generative AI assistant) appear in over 60% of deals above $30K 1. That creates demand for specialists to connect AI to enterprise systems or workflows 1.
  • ISVs in the marketplace can build industry-specific AI agents before Freshworks ships its versions 1. Management said these agents will carry higher prices aligned with industry standards, and expects faster adoption 1.
