Freshworks forecasts annual profit below estimates on AI concerns
Freshworks, a software development firm, forecasted its 2026 profit below Wall Street estimates, citing higher tax rates, the FireHydrant acquisition, and reinvestment plans.
The company projects an adjusted profit per share between 55 and 57 cents, compared to analyst estimates of 69 cents.
Despite concerns about AI disrupting software, CEO Dennis Woodside said building enterprise IT and customer service systems remains complex and time-consuming.
Freshworks expects 2026 revenue between US$952 million and US$960 million, above estimates of US$945.3 million, with Q4 revenue rising 14% to US$222.7 million, exceeding forecasts.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Freshworks is building a more unified ServiceOps offering, not just selling seats
- The FireHydrant acquisition aims to pair Freshworks’ IT service management (ITSM) with FireHydrant’s AI-powered incident management and reliability features, which Freshworks says also brings IT operations management (ITOM) into a unified ServiceOps product 1.
- Freshworks plans a single ServiceOps suite built around AI that connects IT service and operations work, including incident response and reliability, while focusing on disruption prevention plus fast resolution 1.
- Freshworks ties the effort to a common enterprise issue where scattered tools create a “complexity tax,” which can add surprise rollout costs and reduce ROI (return on investment) for corporate IT teams 2.
- This unified platform matches CEO Dennis Woodside’s view that full enterprise IT and customer-service systems take years to build, which he used to push back on concerns that general-purpose AI will upend software vendors 3.
Anthropic’s Cowork plugins fueled investor anxiety about AI’s impact on SaaS business models
- Investor concern rose after Anthropic introduced plugins for its Claude Cowork AI agent on Jan. 30 4.
- The plugins can run domain-specific tasks across customer support, legal, finance, or sales, which fed a broader software sell-off that some observers call a “SaaSpocalypse” 3.
- Some investors worry AI agents could cut demand for per-seat licensing, especially in per-user software categories, though Freshworks says it is still adding users and gaining share from incumbents like ServiceNow and Atlassian 3.
- Coverage of the plugins describes a shift where some investors now treat AI less as a helper and more as a competitor to parts of the enterprise software stack, even as some analysts have played down near-term risk 3.
