French, Swiss workplace software firms merge creates unicorn
French software provider LumApps and Swiss firm Beekeeper have announced a merger, creating a new company valued at about US$1.1 billion.
The deal is backed by British private equity group Bridgepoint and is expected to finalize later this month.
The combined company will be headquartered in Lyon, France, led by LumApps CEO Sebastien Ricard, and will employ around 600 people globally.
LumApps serves clients like Airbus and LVMH with corporate intranet software, while Beekeeper provides a communication app for frontline staff, with customers including Coop and Heathrow Airport.
The merged entity plans to launch a unified platform within six months. It currently generates US$150 million in annual revenue and aims to double that to US$300 million by 2030.
LumApps is already profitable, and Beekeeper is expected to break even this year.

🧠 Food for thought
1️⃣ Riding the intranet software market boom amid workplace transformation
The LumApps-Beekeeper merger is strategically timed to capitalize on rapid growth in the intranet software market, which is projected to expand from $15.2 billion in 2024 to $26 billion by 2030, representing a 9.4% CAGR 1.
This growth is being driven by the post-pandemic shift to hybrid work models, which has dramatically increased demand for digital workplace solutions that connect both office and frontline workers, aligning with the combined strengths of these two companies 2.
By merging LumApps’ office-focused intranet capabilities with Beekeeper’s frontline worker communication app, the new entity addresses a critical market need as organizations struggle to maintain cohesion between remote, in-office, and frontline staff.
The company’s projected revenue growth from $150 million to $300 million by 2030 aligns with the overall market expansion rate, suggesting they expect to maintain or slightly increase their market share in this growing sector.
2️⃣ European tech unicorns face distinctive IPO considerations
The creation of this new $1.1 billion European unicorn is significant in a region where such high-valuation startups remain comparatively rare compared to the United States or Asia.
For European unicorns, the IPO decision involves geographical considerations, as evidenced by Beekeeper CEO’s comment that both US and European markets are viable listing venues given their core market presence in both regions.
