🧠 Food for thought
1️⃣ France’s solar market shows significant growth despite dominance of nuclear energy
France has recently experienced substantial expansion in solar capacity, adding 1.4 GW in Q1 2025 alone, a 60% increase from the previous quarter, bringing the nation’s total capacity to 25.5 GW 1.
This growth is particularly noteworthy given France’s unique energy profile, where nuclear power has historically dominated, accounting for approximately 76.3% of electricity generation while solar contributed just 1.4% as recently as 2017 2.
The French solar market represents an enormous untapped opportunity, with only 3% of homes currently equipped for self-consumption despite over 13 million being compatible, representing a potential market exceeding €200 billion.
The government’s commitment to renewable expansion is evident through planned tenders for various solar projects, with 2 GW available in each bidding round over the next two years 1.
Solar production in France rose by 48% year-on-year, now contributing 5.1% to the national electricity mix, demonstrating the sector’s accelerating growth trajectory despite the country’s historically nuclear-centric energy strategy 1.
2️⃣ Franchise models emerge as scaling solution for solar installation businesses
Solarock’s hybrid franchise approach addresses a critical challenge in the solar industry: balancing local market knowledge with centralized expertise and economies of scale.
